The short term course (STC) organized for postgraduate transport students of the Africa Centre of Excellence (ACE) – Regional Transport Research and Education Centre Kumasi (TRECK) ended on February 10, 2022, in the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi. The professional course was held within 3 days to enhance the knowledge and skills of postgraduate TRECK students on the application of statistics.

The course was held from February 8 - 10, 2022 and administered by a team of researchers and academics from the KNUST-Laboratory for Interdisciplinary Statistical Analysis (KNUST-LISA), Ghana, led by Prof. Atinuke Adebanji, the Centre Coordinator, who is also a Fellow of TRECK. A total of 35 participants involving Nine (9) females and Twenty-six (26) males attended the course.

The course covered Probability distribution for transport data, parametric and nonparametric tests, Time series data analysis, regression analysis and choice models. STC instructions were in R and STATA software.

In Prof. Yaw Adubofour’s closing remarks to the course’s closure, he emphasized the need for statistical knowledge and skills and the application of statistical software and modelling tools for transport practice. He further indicated that TRECK is using this as a pilot to prepare a professional STC on Traffic and Transport data collection, analysis and modelling in partnership with LISA. The project received grant financing from USAID.
